We had a great time at yesterday's "Nonprofit Board Service 101" event hosted by the West Metro Chamber! Cat Care Society's executive director EC Michaels was on the panel, along with Renny Fagan, Nostos Consulting and formerly the Colorado Nonprofit Association, Bonnie Biafore, with Rocky Mountain Goat Walkabouts and Aimee Fontes, FirstBank. Some of the panel's key takeaways are that board members not only are ambassadors, but they have a fiduciary responsibility for an organization's success, as well as oversight into their good-standing with current laws and within the community. A good board meeting will have four major components: oversight, fundraising, strategy setting and an evaluation. If you're looking to join a board of directors, the best way to find the right fit is by identifying a nonprofit with a mission close to your own heart. If you're interested in serving on a board and love what we do, CCS is looking for someone with a background in HR or accounting. Let us know if you'd like more information! #boardofdirectors #catcaresociety #westmetrochamber #nonprofit

Meet one of Cat Care Society’s talented volunteers! One of our longest fosters, Teresa K has graciously offered up her home, time and talents to care for kitties in need since 2001, taking care of about 15 cats per year! Her passion for helping cats began as a small child when she helped her grandma take care of a colony of cats in her alley. When she saw CCS’ cage-free environment, she knew this was the place to continue her work. On a typical day, Teresa is woken up by kitten mayhem around 5 a.m. It begins by scooping litter, serving breakfast and cleaning up after the little ones. Throughout the day, she takes plenty of "kitten breaks" to unwind, get cuddles and rest her eyes from staring at a screen. In the evenings, there is lots of socialization, cuddles and play time. Teresa says 3-week-old kittens are her absolute favorite. “They are ridiculously cute and wobbly.” Teresa says that at first, she didn’t think she would be able to give her fosters back, but it does get easier. “I just remember that giving them back lets me help more cats,” she said. “I did keep my current two cats Maxwell and Alley (pictured) after fostering them because I had a chance to see their personalities and I knew they would be a great fit together.” We thank Teresa for all her years of helping us help these precious kitties!
